SHENZHEN: The first-ever zero-carbon open-ear earphones were unveiled on Monday by a Shenzhen-based business. This is only the most recent in a line of technical innovations that have been accelerated by China's "dual carbon goals."
The gadget has enhanced artificial intelligence capabilities and an open-ear design that lets users hear sounds around them.
The company's president, Wu Haiquan, stated that by utilizing recyclable materials, green electricity, and power-efficient technology to the fullest, ARC 3 has achieved carbon neutrality.
A relatively recent but rapidly growing trend in consumer electronics is carbon-neutral production. By 2030, Apple intends to get all of its products carbon neutral. The company unveiled its first carbon-neutral watch last year.
Industry experts stated that although a growing number of food and beverage products have been carbon neutral in recent years, consumer electronics, whose manufacturing can need hundreds of components and a protracted supply chain, are still unlikely to attain the same milestone.
"It is our hope to set an example and prompt other companies in the sector and along the supply chain to follow suit," Wu stated. "Releasing more carbon-neutral products into the market can also help nurture a low-carbon consumption trend."
Established in 1997 mainly as a supplier for global brands, Grandsun launched its Cleer brand in 2012.
According to Wu, the company's commitment to zero-carbon production stems in part from China's demands that its manufacturers reduce their carbon footprints.
China is actively pushing for the use of clean energy and use of green technologies in the manufacturing sector under the "dual carbon goals" of peaking carbon emissions by 2030 and attaining carbon neutrality by 2060.
As far as consumption goes, the nation already leads the globe in new energy vehicle sales (NEVs).
The rapid emergence of a low-carbon product ecosystem in China, according to Grandsun's chief technology officer Mickael Lefebvre, is advantageous for the advancement of novel carbon-neutral goods like ARC 3.
